Carpeting installed in your commercial facility represents a significant monetary investment. Protect that investment by having them cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. A regular cleaning schedule not only keeps them looking fresh and clean, but extends the life of the carpeting.
The carpeting in a commercial facility withstands more spills and ground-in dirt than those carpets in the home. Unfortunately, people working in your commercial building aren’t usually as pristine about cleaning up messes they make as they would be at their home. That’s why commercial carpeting is more durable and made of fibers that are tougher and repel more stains.
However, commercial carpets need specialized care to address the unique concerns of daily wear and tear. They need a regular maintenance and cleaning schedule to keep them cleaner and also promote a healthier environment for customers and employees.
The following infographic was created by Dr. Michael A. Berry, PhD on the benefits of regular commercial carpet cleaning. Dr. Berry is a retired scientist from the Environmental Protection Agency and is currently a member of The Cleaning Industry Research Institute for the last 10 years. He stresses that regularly maintaining carpet promotes the good health of the building’s occupants.
Best Commercial Carpet Cleaning Solution
When you think of carpet cleaning, do you consider it a one-time event? If so, you’re not providing the best long-term solution for your commercial carpets. A better solution would be to establish a carpet maintenance program.
The difference may seem minimal to you, but cleaning and maintaining a carpet are really two separate things.
Cleaning is the removal of apparent soil. Many believe commercial carpet cleaning should be performed as needed. However, soiling is a cumulative process, and if allowed to advance too far and deep, may not be able to be removed.
Maintenance, on the other hand, is the process of removing soil on a regular basis so that soil accumulation is kept at a minimum. Of course, daily vacuuming is important to remove surface debris. But a regular cleaning schedule is also required to maximize your carpet’s appearance and extend its life.
Regular Carpet Cleaning Maintenance
Your commercial carpet maintenance program should begin immediately after carpets are installed, for the maximum effectiveness. The program should include the following steps:
1. Soil Prevention
Frequent cleaning of hard surfaces that adjoin carpeted areas will reduce the soil and debris being tracked onto the carpet. It’s a good idea to place mats over carpeting in high traffic areas, and to keep the mats clean.
2. Routine Vacuuming
Establish a schedule for vacuuming the carpets. For maximum dry soil removal, it is recommended that you use a vacuum that is Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) approved with a “Seal of Approval/Green Label (SOA/GL)”.
3. Spot & Spill Removal
Using professional products and techniques, treat and clean spots and spills quickly before they become stains.
4. Interim High Traffic Cleaning
Schedule cleaning for high traffic areas. This should be on a more frequent basis than #5 below.
5. Deep Cleaning
Regularly schedule deep cleaning to extract and remove residue and trapped soils.
